Abstract:

Photonic crystals, metamaterials and metasurfaces that are nanophotonic structures have demonstrated novel avenues of light manipulation at wavelength and subwavelength scales enabling phenomena like high Purcell factors, topological behavior, anomalous refraction or flat lensing. This talk will discuss some selected work performed on some of these topics at Sandia involving III-nitrides as well as other semiconductors across infrared to visible wavelengths.

Biography:

Dr. Ganesh Subramania is currently a staff member at Sandia National Laboratories at ABQ in the Semiconductor Materials and Device Sciences department. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, India. He obtained his Master’s in Condensed Matter Physics from Iowa State University in 1994. He obtained his Ph.D. with Co-Majors in Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering in 2000 also at Iowa State University,  following which he joined MIT as a postdoc. He joined Sandia National Laboratories in 2001.
 
Currently, his research interests encompass experimental realization and study of nanoscale structures (photonic crystals, metamaterials and plasmonics) for enhancing light-matter interaction and quantum information science and topological photonics.  Ganesh is an SPIE Fellow and OSA Senior member and serves as a Chair of the annual SPIE Conference Active Photonic Platforms. He is currently also an Associate editor of SPIE’s Journal of Nanophotonics.
