About the Speaker
Thomas K. Allison is a professor at Stony Brook University, with joint appointments in the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
Allison earned his B.S. in Engineering Physics from Cornell University in 2003 and his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California at Berkeley in 2010.
He started at Stony Brook University as an assistant professor in 2013, where he has focused on applying frequency comb methods to ultrafast spectroscopy, in a variety of contexts.
Abstract
While frequency combs have revolutionized precision measurement and atomic clocks, their application to problems in ultrafast and nonlinear spectroscopy has been much less explored.
In the Allison lab at Stony Brook, we have used frequency comb techniques to improve the sensitivity of ultrafast pump/probe measurements by orders of magnitude is several different areas, enabling ultrafast spectroscopy measurements in qualitatively new regimes.
Technique development has gone hand in hand with developing new high-power frequency comb light sources spanning from the far-IR and THz to the extreme UV.
I will present an overview of this work, highlighting important technical achievements and scientific results.
